Lance W. Lange

Lance Lange is a shareholder in the firm's litigation group practicing primarily in the areas of complex commercial litigation, banking and lending litigation, antitrust litigation and compliance, corporate internal investigations, intellectual property litigation and defamation disputes.

Specifically, Mr. Lange has handled cases involving a wide variety of legal issues, including corporate internal investigations involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and antitrust compliance; antitrust litigation; litigation involving claims of trademark and patent infringement; litigation involving alleged misappropriation of trade secrets; defense of libel or defamation claims; defense of R.I.C.O. and other fraud claims; ERISA litigation; professional malpractice defense; fair debt collection matters; healthcare litigation; tort litigation; litigation involving breach of contract claims; litigation of claims of breach of fiduciary duties of corporate officers and directors; various types of real estate disputes; defense of corporations in various class actions; and other types of civil and criminal litigation.

Mr. Lange has represented clients in a number of trials and has briefed and argued numerous evidentiary matters.  In 2002-03, he was a member of the trial team that litigated the first consummated merger case in an administrative hearing before the Federal Trade Commission in over fifteen years — F.T.C. v. Chicago Bridge & Iron.  Mr. Lange was also part of the team of attorneys who obtained summary judgment against plaintiffs in Jefferson County, Mississippi, on behalf of a consumer finance company in a “mass joinder” fraud action.  Finally, Mr. Lange was part of a team of attorneys that represented Microsoft Corporation in a case involving the validity of the Windows® trademark.

Mr. Lange received his bachelor's degree from Stanford University with honors in 1996.  He earned a master's degree from the University of Iowa in 1998, while serving as a graduate teaching assistant in the University of Iowa's Department of German.  Mr. Lange completed his legal degree at Columbia University in 2001, after serving as the Production Editor (1999-2000) and Book Note Editor (2000-2001) for the Columbia Journal of European Law.  Mr. Lange previously practiced in the Chicago office of a large international law firm from 2001 to 2004.
